FOR EMPLOYERS / PRACTICAL GUIDE
How to write a recruitment brief that starts the right conversation.
A practical checklist for hiring across property, development and construction.
Start with the reason for the hire
A replacement role, a new project and a growth appointment each have a different context. Explain what has prompted the search and what the business needs from the person who joins.
Describe outcomes, not just duties
List the results the role should achieve in the first six and twelve months. This gives the search more direction than a long list of recurring tasks.
Separate essential from useful
Decide which experience is genuinely required on day one. Be clear about transferable experience and skills that can be developed in the role.
Make the working environment clear
Include reporting lines, team structure, location, site requirements and working arrangements. These details help candidates understand the practical realities of the opportunity.
Agree the process before starting
Confirm the decision makers, interview stages, remuneration parameters and preferred start date. Share constraints early so they can shape a realistic discussion.
