FOR CANDIDATES / PRACTICAL GUIDE

Get more from your next recruitment conversation.

A little preparation can help you explain your experience and the move you want to make.

Prepare a clear career overview

Summarise your recent roles, core responsibilities and the types of organisations or projects you have worked with. Keep it concise enough to leave room for a conversation.

Bring examples of your contribution

Describe what you personally owned and how your work affected a project or team. Distinguish your responsibilities from the wider organisation’s achievements.

Know your priorities

Think about the kind of work, level of responsibility, location and team environment you want. Decide where you have flexibility and which factors are essential.

Talk about the direction, not only the title

Explain the skills you would like to use more, the experience you want to gain and the work you find most rewarding. Different titles can sometimes lead to similar opportunities.

Agree the next step

Before finishing, clarify how to share your CV, how confidentiality should be handled and whether there is a specific opportunity to discuss. Ask what information would be useful to prepare next.
